American guitarist and singer, Lou Reed, 66, finally surrendered rockstar status by settling down with longtime girlfriend, Laurie Anderson, 60, in an exclusive wedding in Boulder, Colorado. The event was long-awaited; the couple started dating in the early 1990’s. Although used to being in the spotlight, they both desired a quiet, low-key wedding with a handful of friends and family.
According to Reed’s rep the wedding “was exactly what they wanted – an intimate gathering among friends.” The secret ceremony consisted of only 5 people: Reed, Anderson, the minister, and two witnesses. Following the ceremony a few days later they had a New York reception in Karin and Timothy Greenfield-Sanders’ East Village townhouse. The celebration party was very conservative; drinks and dessert with all of their closest friends. Guests included music producer, Hal Willner, director Julian Schnabel, tai chi legend Master Ren, Juliet and Olatz Schnabel, limbo king Mike Quashie, and Richard Belzer – star on Law & Order: SVU.
The wedding was a second for Reed, who had married Sylvia Morales 26 years prior. In fact, his first wife proved to be a turning point in his career and a musical inspiration, motivating him to write “Think it Over,” “Women,” as well as the Legendary Hearts and New Sensations albums. Love has lent a lot of creative insight into both Reed and Anderson’s life. In the early 1990’s, Reed contributed to Anderson’s “In Our Sleep” and “One Beautiful Evening.”
They’ve collaborated together on many hit songs during their deep and intimate courtship. While Reed was busy working on an album in memory of Warhol’s death, Anderson narrated Andy Warhol: The Documentary Film.
