On August 16, 2007, it was announced that President Bush' daughter, Jenna, was engaged to be married to Henry Hagar, 28, a former White House aide. Henry's father, John Hagar, is currently the chairman of the Virginia Republican Party. The couple had been dating for two years; they first met at her father's presidential campaign in 2004. They've been inseparable ever since.

Their first public appearance as a couple was in 2005 at a White House dinner with Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall. Earlier that same year, Laura Bush was quoted saying that Hagar wasn't a “serious boyfriend” of her daughter's. It wasn't long before Hagar sought permission from Mr. Bush for Jenna's hand in marriage during one of their many trips to Camp David. After receiving the President's approval, he popped the question on Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park in Maine, surprising Jenna on an otherwise typical, family vacation.

Jenna is a fraternal twin to sister, Barbara. She attended the University of Texas at Austin, graduating with a degree in English. She was the more rebellious of the two, charged with two misdemeanors in her younger years: one for possession of alcohol and the other, attempt to use a fake ID. In 2000 she didn't want her father to run for president, believing that it would “change their lives.” While her father ran again for office in 2004, Jenna was seen sticking her tongue out to the media photographers.

Despite her initial resistance to her father's high ambitions, she decided to become more involved in his 2004 campaign. She made several appearances on his behalf - even giving a speech at the Republican Convention with her sister, Barbara. After returning from a brief internship for UNICEF's Educational Policy Department in Latin America, she continued her teaching position at Elsie Whitlow Stokes Community Freedom Public Charter School.

Hagar graduated from the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia. He worked as a U.S. Department of Commerce aide for Carlos Gutierrez, and later as a White House aide for Karl Rove. He is presently in the MBA program at Virginia's Darden School.

The couple have officially set a date: May 10, 2008. Although the idea of an extravagant White House wedding was appealing, both Jenna and Hagar wanted to avoid the hordes of paparazzi who would inevitably flock to the event. Desiring something more romantic and private, they agreed on having the celebration at Bush's Prairie Chapel Ranch in Crawford, Texas; a beautiful gated manor surrounded by 1,600 acres of land. Although her mother favored a big East coast bash, she couldn't refute her daughter's wishes. A White House wedding “would be a lot of fun,” Laura admits to People Magazine. “But I also know it wouldn't be very private. And of course we want to do what Jenna wants to do.”

An inside source says that Jenna has already selected her bridesmaids and that “she's very excited. They make a great couple.”
