Rumors began to circulate Hollywoodland when Scarlet Johansson, 23, was spotted in a Monique Lhuillier boutique in downtown Los Angeles with her mother and sister. According to the New York Post, the purpose of the family outing was to find a wedding gown. Witnesses reported that the star was seen trying on dresses while her mother looked on with an excited smile.

The young actress has been dating actor Ryan Reynolds, 30, for almost a year. Reynolds, a mere 7 years her senior, ended his rather long and steady relationship with Alanis Morrissette last February; only 2 months before a romantic Easter vacation with Johansson. The termination of the Morrissette-Reynolds duo was a shock to many – the couple had been engaged for more than two years and seemed ready to make the ultimate commitment. The reasoning behind their break-up was never disclosed, however it's been noted that it was a mutual split.

Easter weekend consisted of a night out on the Manhattan town with a food break at Odeon, an upscale restaurant celebrated for it's superb cuisine. An informant commented that “they were in a good mood,” while another said, “they were definitively holding hands. . . they were a cute couple!” The following Sunday, Reynolds and Johansson met up with a group of friends at the Carlyle hotel for drinks and a $135 lunch. One observer said that it was hard to tell that they were even celebrating Easter. “The whole group was having a blast.”

The next time they made a public appearance was a few weeks later in New York City. Shortly after that, the pair was spotted at the Troubadour in West Hollywood, catching the Damnwell's show. They arrived separately and exchanged a kiss and hug when they met up. An inside source says, “In the foyer they were talking and had their hands all over each other. He kissed her a couple more times in the club. He was totally sweet. She went to the restroom and he went to check up on her.” After the show came to an end, the couple shared a few more laughs over drinks and then slipped out of the club, hand in hand.

Things began to look serious when Johansson flew back to Canada to meet Reynold's parents. An insider told the Herald Sun: “We can expect an engagement announcement from Ryan and Scarlett any day now. They are very much in love and have decided to take the next step. Scarlett is thrilled!”

Josh Hartnett, 29, who dated Johansson for two years during the filming of the Black Dahlia, has joked about finding the perfect photo for her bachelorette invitations. The two have managed to remain close friends, splitting in 2006 due to “busy schedules.”

Although Johansson denies the rumors that her and Reynolds are thinking of tying the nuptial knot, it seems that the couple is up to more than they let on. Only time will tell what the hot new couple has up their sleeves!
