San Francisco mayor, Gavin Newsom, 40, just asked American actress, Jennifer Siebel, 33, to be his wife. The two met on a blind date at the Artist's Ball at Yerba Buena Center in October 2006. High society party planner, Stanlee Gatti, also a close personal friend to Mayor Newsom, confirmed the engagement to the press, December 30, 2007.
This is a first marriage for Siebel and a second for Newsom, who divorced his wife, Kimberly Guilfoyle, just 7 months before meeting Siebel. Guilfoyle is a lawyer and TV commentator for “The Lineup” on Fox News. Soon after the divorce was finalized, Newsom began seeing CSI:Miami star, Sofia Milos. Their courtship was short-lived, to say the least.
When it comes to Siebel and Newsom, most of their friends agree, it's a match made in heaven. “I actually think that they were made for one another,” Gatti says in an interview. “You know, the kind of thing where people finish each other's sentences? They do. Yet they're respectful of each other. They're pretty in sync with the way they feel about some things.” Siebel seconds those sentiments by stating, “We have so much in common, we were blown away – from our love for Africa to our interests in political issues to art and the wine business and college sports.”
Even Newsom's colleagues down at City Hall think that Siebel is the pick of the litter. Nathan Ballard, the mayor's spokesperson, says that “Jen is lovely, smart, and kind, and we're very pleased that she and the mayor are tying the knot.”
Shortly into their blossoming romance, the couple was face to face with a political scandal. Apparently, prior to meeting Siebel, Newsom had engaged in sexual relations with his appointment's secretary, Ruby Tourk, wife of his campaign director, Alex Tourk. According to Ruby, the affair was a direct result of her drinking problems. Alex resigned as campaign manager soon afterwards. Mayor Newsom admitted to substance abuse problems as well, telling The Chronicle, “I have come to the conclusion that I will be a better person without alcohol in my life.”
There are no official wedding plans made as of yet – the couple is still trying to pick an appropriate date that works with both their busy schedules.
